Big Ugly Catch

Well, here he is, but first, I will give you the story leading up to this catch. Ashley and I spent last weekend in Baldwin City, Kansas at the annual Moore Family Hayride. We were lucky enough to have our friends Mike and Kate come with us, along with many other members of my family I hadn't seen in a while which was fun, but I digress. Mike, my father Mike, myself(Mikey), and my cousin Lori's Husband Mike(there is a theme here) left early to get some fishing done at my Aunt and Uncles farm to ensure we had enough table fare for the fish fry my dad does for the hayride, which I am starting to inherit. Typical day at their pond which has roughly 12 million bass ranging in size from 10-12", and nothing else in it, so we thought. Mike and I had already caught 4-5 apiece, and were trying to switch things up in hope of catching a little larger bass, so I decided to put on the ugliest colored worm(Candy Corn BPS Stick-O) in the history of the world to see if the sight of that god awful color drew in the big one. Well, it did, but not the one we were looking for. What you see above is a 30 pound grass carp. To confirm your suspicions, it is the ugliest fish in the history of the world, but my goodness it was a blast to land him. Using my 10 pound test line, a 2500 series shimano spinning reel, and a 6'6" Medium action rod, it took me just over 20 minutes to land this monster. Although I am not proud of the species of fish I caught, I was very impressed with the sheer size of this monster, and man it was a battle getting him in on such light tackle! I just started this blog for fun, and to kind of let everyone know how Ashley and I are doing, have fun, and I look forward to posting again. Until the next time!

I am so excited you are blogging. That is one ugly fish. Kind of like the trout with 2 mouths you caught at Bennett.
